The piece we are analysing has something absolutely unique on an archaeological and scientific level, if we obviously take into consideration the comparable material on display in the world's great museum collections. As for the denomination of the piece, we cannot but speak of a: ‘Hellenistic head’, however this is reductive, as it would only refer to the style used and not to the actual identity of the subject. It is therefore appropriate to place the object in a time period ranging from the 2nd century B.C.E. to and not beyond the age of Trajan, although some signs of workmanship may suggest the use of tools typical of the art in vogue at the end of the Antonine dynasty.
